Stopped working

Great app, since last update it wont open any new files from my email. Wont even recognize that theyre Fdx. Unusable for the time being.

Non-Operational

It worked just fine until recently. I usually work on my desktop/laptop and email me the Final Draft file so I can continue working on my iPhone. Today though it would not work. Thru the mail app, Id open the email, click on the file, then FD would launch, but the file would not appear. What is goin on?!?

Stopped working

Dont update! Will not open files from email.

Final Draft files wont open

They do an update to fix bugs... But end up creating more

FinalDraft for Ipad, great so far.

I read a few rough reviews and decided to take a chance anyway. I figured the managers of such a well known piece of software would surely fix the bugs Id read about. Well, after the 1 Aug 2016 update, everything is not fixed. I find it amazing that the authors of this great software cant test it completely to make sure it syncs well with dropbox and iCloud. (It does not sync well and loses much of the formatting). If you dont know how to do this, get with the authors of Scrivener. They got it right on their first try, please fix this problem. It cant be that difficult.

So frustrating.

The fine controls on this are highly problematic. The cursor is quite inaccurate and I find myself jumping sections when trying to place the cursor. The undo button is inconsistent -- sometimes undoing the last edit while other times taking out the last several edits. I tried to use this app in a professional capacity to make revisions on the fly with my iPhone and its just not up to the task.

Best App for Writers

I have been waiting to buy this until I was able to use with my ICloud account. This app has everything I need as a screenwriter. Highly suggest.

iOS 10 update virtually unusable on iPad 4

This is actually a really sleek, intuitive, impressive port of Final Draft to iOS. Its not as robust as the full computer version, but its lean and efficient and fantastic on the go. Unfortunately, since the iOS 10 update, there is SO MUCH LAG in the app that its virtually unusable. Place the cursor, delete five characters - this should take maybe a second or two. Now it takes 10. Hopefully they can fix this. How is it possible that a glorified word processor is just too demanding? Pages doesnt have any trouble. Guess Ill be writing my outline THERE and scripting on my computer. <sigh>

Getting there. But not "there," yet.

There are many things to like about this product and I still recommend it, but there are things it cant do that frustrate me. You cant make notes for easy reference. At least, I cant figure out how to do that. This program needs the ability to change the characters name. I think that functionality exists in the PC version. It needs to be added to the iPad version. Im 40% through a script and realized I have two characters whose names sound too much alike. But theres nothing I can do about that. At the very least they need to give you a list of its shortcomings so you can plan ahead.

The best desktop software is also the best on iPad.

Seriously this makes writing screenplays so much fun! The app has ALL of the features that FinalDraft desktop has. Its also made smart by that typing in character names and stuff is done automatically. The interface is clean. The app is fast. And it supports icloud syncing. Dropbox syncing works too, but I turn it off because I get annoyed of the "syncing with dropbox" alert that keeps popping up. To the developers: it would be nice to add in folders for my scripts. Instead of one long list of all of my scripts a folder nested view would be nice. Otherwise.

Pretty much unusable

I finally made the move to Final Draft after being somewhat unsatisfied with the other options available and it is supposed to be the premiere screenwriting software on the planet. The desktop app is fine, my only beef being the exorbitant cost of what is basically a word processor with automatic formatting. As for the iPad app, I made the mistake in thinking I could seamlessly work between my laptop and iPad. But first, syncing is terrible compared to other apps in a cloud based era. You can back up to Dropbox, or to iCloud, but these are backups and do not sync to one another. A frustrating experience after using Celtx, where I could pick up where I left off on my iPad or iPhone. Second, and more importantly, the typing on the app is just bad. For an app that is just a typing app in essence, typing is a nightmare. It just doesnt input the keystrokes as any other app Ive ever used. Missed keystrokes causes misspelled words that l have to constantly go back and correct, and then correct again. The only solution is to type very slowly and make sure each keystroke is correctly displayed on the screen. Too frustrating to actually use. Yes,I realize its free, but not really. I bought into the ecosystem of Final Draft, and on the iPad side of the world, it is a fail.

Updates have made it unusable

I loved using the previous version to write while on my commute. Now the app spends minutes syncing after typing only a few words; the connection to Dropbox is more unstable; and Ive just discovered that the app failed to save or deleted a document I created just this morning. Save your money and stick with the full version.

Must have for FD users

Wonderful app to keep the scriptwriter going when away from the desk

Glitches. Glitches.and glitches

I set up iCloud for my scripts to be on there, AS AN OPTION. Now, the only way I can access my scripts is if I am connected to the internet. How stupid is this app?

Amazing

Just, wow. App opens immediately, fast access to all of your scripts. Amazing syncing capability with iCloud; if I make a change on my iPhone, it reflects on my iPad, etc. I love that it creates a folder right within iCloud Drive for easy access, and the ability to send a PDF of your script directly to said iCloud Folder is a welcome addition. Please keep up the amazing work, you guys are doing great work on this app, and Ive never seen such a continual, welcome stream of updates, unlike the previous "once-a-year" updates by the previous company before your team bought Final Draft. My only bit of feedback would be the ability to change font, size and color within the app, and also the ability to create folders or "projects" for your FD files; it can be cumbersome to keep track of everything if you have lots of drafts. Having a cork board or outlining tool would be a welcome addition, and the dream request would be the ability to have Final Draft 10s collaboration feature work with FD Writer. Anyway, great work guys, please keep it up!

Good start but…

Useful tool, but the interface can be improved and there is not translation in another language than english. So bad.

Only thing missing now for five stars...

…is the thesaurus. After having given this app one star when it came out and waiting for what seems like years for them to update it with functionality that reflects the relatively steep price for an iOS app, Final Draft is finally starting to get where it should have been a long time ago. With completely integrated and automate sync to dropbox, I’m finally willing to give the app four stars. For the five stars, it’ll definitely need the thesaurus, essential for any app that’s supposed to be used as a serious writing tool. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Old Review I’ve been using Final Draft for a long time... …and I believe the company behind it is lazy and resting on its laurels. This app is extremely expensive compared to other comparable apps, but doesn’t offer much more, or rather less. No iCloud integration (would be nice if I could just open Final Draft on my mac without having to manually transfer my script from my iPad). I sometimes change several times a day and it just becomes a hassle. Scripts Pro which cost a tenth of Final Draft has iCloud integration. Also, I’ve been waiting since Final Draft Writer came out for a thesaurus, an essential tool when you’re writing, but over a year later and still nothing. How lazy can you be? 45 bucks for what?
