Final Draft Mobile App Reviews

good but...

For the most part I like this app and have been using it a lot. However, when it messes up it REALLY messes up. Sometimes the command icons at the top simply vanish, preventing you from closing your document or e-mailing it, among other things. Also, the find and replace function is pretty much useless. It works for about a page and then just vanishes. There are possibly more problems I havent discovered yet, but I thought Id point out the ones I have encountered so far.

Great with one big flaw.

Its great. My only complaint is that I use it constantly with the logitech keypad, and it constantly freezes when I delete sections of my writing (hitting backspace too many times) so I have shutdown and restart the app.

Not all that good

This product was great when I first started using it, although it does not let you drop characters. Every since the iOS was updated it is complete garbage. It used to be a quick program now it runs slow, in fact it is actual quicker now to write a script on google docs. I would to recommend this $30 garbage app to anyone. I am now using a free script write app that has no issues.

A little buggy but still awesome

I love this app. As an amateur, Ive been wanting to invest in Final Draft for years, but I could never quite bring myself to spend that much money. The second I saw this app I was sold. I was skeptical at first and actually considered using it in the interim until I could afford the computer software. But with a bluetooth keyboard, and after reading some of the reviews around the web, I get the feeling its just as good. I understand its still a work in progress and would have given it a full five stars if it werent for its tendency to crash. It doesnt do it often (some days more than others) but when it does its really annoying. It usually happens when I backtrack to make a correction. Im a very fast typer and it almost seems like the app doesnt have the ability to think that quickly if you know what I mean. I still havent figured out if there is a way to manually save my work. It doesnt seem like it. It saves frequently on its own but when it crashes it rarely saves the last sentence. Still, in the beginning it would "forget" the last 2 minutes or so (which is usually paragraphs for me). Now it saves to the very last minute when it crashes. So it seems theyve been working on fixing the problem and I have faith itll get better. This is great app. If you have an iPad and youve been looking for a cheaper Final Draft, youve found it. You wont be disappointed.

Great App

Ive been beta testing it for a while now and can say its definitely worth a purchase!

Finally it now available for iPhone. And Ive got my moneys worth :)

Well Ive just want to say that. When Ive used it on iPad when I first bought it. Its was a good start with the iPad version. Originally Ive always wanted to see the same version of final draft writer on iPhone and now. Ive finally can now use it on my iPhone. This has became a reality Im very pleased. And now Im using this everyday. Ive Got my moneys worth. Id rate this a ten star if Apple could have a ten star rating system. But hey a five star system is a still excellent. Keep up the excellent work :)

Not very responsive

When I try to change from action to slug line to character I have to tap on my iPhone 6s repeatedly in the choices menu. Very annoying. Other than that its great for writing on the metro or whatnot. Id look into some better or more intuitive way of pairing my work on my MacBook with my iPhone though. Emailing and Dropbox are a pain. Id rather just have the cloud sync automatically like everything else does these days. More positively, the app makes me look like a loser playing micro-credit iPhone games at the coffee shop rather than writing scripts on my MacBook.

Syncing issues with Dropbox

Recently I have been having trouble syncing from one device to the next. It doesnt update from Dropbox well anymore. Im losing chunks of scripts. Please fix.

font problem

Its not support Turkish characters. Id like to write the scripts using different fonts. Like Courier New and Times New Roman. Please add different font selection. Thanks.

Наконец-то!

Awesome its finally here. Bought it at the introductory price hoping other language support or at least a choice of Cyrillic-compatible fonts will be added in the updates. I aint a lightning-fast typer, so the iPad is the perfect on the go writing companion for me. Huge kudos to Final Draft Inc.

Other languages support (Unicode)

Hi! Ive bought FD but Im very disappointed because it does not support other languages (I mean Unicode support). Waiting for update!

Russian language?

I live in Russia and I mostly work with Russian fonts. But Courier is not acceptable for Unicode-systems in any country with Slavic languages. Could you please add Courier font for Russian language? I just cant work wis Final Draft!!! Or some another acceptable font for my country. Thank you ! I hope my suggestion will help you to make Final Draft more comfortable for existing and new users.

useful but

Things to improve: Edit scene number: if you are working on serial you have to change the scene numbers (e.g. 10.34 no 34) Highlight phrases in color to evidence the changes

Dont waste your money

The Final Draft app is a tease, promising full functionality but delivering an all-but-worthless sliver of what it should. I started by creating a new script. Everything worked fine for the first few lines until I started having the characters talk. After the first character spoke, the "Action" list froze. I couldnt select character, scene heading, dialogue, parenthetical, etc. The only solution that I could find was to close the app and then double click the home button on my iPhone 6 and fully exit the program. I have to do that EVERY TIME a character has any dialogue. Just checked the App Store and there are no updates available. Dont buy this app.

Glitches. Glitches.and glitches

Im paying 20 bucks for an app thats not even ready. Im sorry but this is the first time I paid more than 3 bucks on an app on iOS and this is the performance I get? This is a mighty step back from the desktop version. All of my gripes are already specified in the other reviews.

No More Excuses

If you have an iPhone and you dont buy this app then you cannot call yourself a serious writer. The ability to open, write, edit, PDF, and highlight your scripts on the go from your iOS device is more than worth the $15. The only drawback to this Final Draft app is that it takes away a writers innate ability to procrastinate.

Great but just started crashing.

iPad 2. Fix please! Immediate crash on load.

Constantly Crashing

Ever since I bought this app for my iPad, it has been crashing every time I try to open it leaving me unable to access any of my work. Dont waste your money on Final Draft Writer until they fix this VERY BIG problem.

Not optimized iPhone 6 or 6 Plus

I was so excited to learn that FD was finally released for iPhone, and especially so because my iPhone 6 Plus, being 5.5" phablet, is the perfect device for handy script touch-ups on the go. So when using the app I was surprised and disappointed that its UI format is limited to the old 4" iPhone 5/5s/5/c, complete with oversized keyboard and icons. The app otherwise works fairly well, however Id like to have one touch access to common commands (character, action, scene heading dialogue, etc.) like the iPad version. Im hoping that a proper iPhone 6 Plus version can incorporate that in a future update.

App is D.O.A. On iPad

Do not give these people money! I spent $20 for the iPad FD Writer and all it immediately crashes 100% of the time. This app is a brick. The Support page goes to a link that is only for the desktop version and it wont give you any support because you dont have a license for the desktop app. This is literally a scam app. Do not pay for it.
